Mental Health Month Launch Event
Mental Health Month ACT will be launched virtually in 2020 to support the mental wellbeing of the Canberra community and the impacts the events of this year have had on us all, in a COVID safe way.
‘Reflections of Connection’ is a video series that explores a diverse selection of community mental health services available in the ACT through conversations on personal experiences and reflections.
Keep an eye on our socials for some sneak peeks of what to expect!
2019 Launch Event
In 2019 we kicked off Mental Health Month with a comedy evening at the Dickson Tradies where Canberrans helped promote positive mental health, breaking down stigma associated with mental illness and were entertained by some of the best club comedians in Australia!
The evening was a sellout success with over 90 people attending. We received lots of positive feedback about the launch event with many saying that it is great to kick off MHM with a cheerful event that encourages people to laugh.
2018 Launch Event
In 2018 we officially launched Mental Health Month in the ACT in Garema Place on Friday 5th of October under the city lights in a fun, laid-back carnival atmosphere!
MHCC ACT Executive Officer Simon Viereck welcomed the ACT Minister for Mental Health Shane Rattenbury MLA to officially launch Mental Health Month in the ACT.
Minister Rattenbury spoke about the theme for Mental Health Month in 2018 ‘Identity & Growth’ saying, “I think it is a really powerful message and a really great theme for us to reflect on right through this month of events.”
This family friendly event highlighted some of the incredible talent we have here in Canberra with live performances from the Warehouse Circus, S.A.D Australia and music from Local upbeat cover duo El Rose.
Gecko Gang provided free face painting for the kids along with popcorn and fairy floss. Thanks to Madeleine Tranter Creative for entertaining us with fairy magic and bubbles. A free sausage sizzle was generously provided for the community by the local Lions Club.
Big thank you to all who braved the cold and came along to officially launch Mental Health Month in the ACT!
